TUBERCULOSIS (TB): PATHOGENESIS,SIGNS, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

What is tuberculosis 
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria; it mainly infects lungs and causes pulmonary tuberculosis.

mycobacterium tuberculosis:
It is the gram +ve bacteria(can be stained by gram stain) because of the presence of a unusual waxy coat layer containing mycolic acid in the cell wall.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a species of pathogenic bacteria in the family Mycobacteriaceae and the causative agent of tuberculosis. First discovered in 1882 by Robert Koch.




PATHOGENESIS:



SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
 -CHEST PAIN
 -COUGH CAN OCCUR WITH BLOOD
 -FATIGUE
 -FEVER
 -LOSS OF APPETITE
 -MALAISE
 -NIGHT SWEATING
 -LOSS OF WEIGHT
 -SHORTNESS OF BREATHING
 -FATIGUE


TREATMENT:
Treatment isn't always required for those without symptoms. Patients with active symptoms will require a long course of treatment involving multiple antibiotics.

Rifampin
Isoniazid
Pyrazinamide
Ethambutol
